While most Singaporean travellers head straight for Bali, those who take the detour to East Java discover volcanic landscapes, traditional Javanese culture, and a raw authenticity that Bali’s tourist-heavy south coast cannot match. Surabaya: More Than a Transit Stop
Most travellers treat Surabaya as a pit stop on the way to Mount Bromo, but the city deserves at least a day of exploration. The Arab Quarter around Jalan Ampel is one of the oldest commercial districts in Java, packed with spice traders, textile shops, and small mosques.
