1. Introduction
Briefly, the reference of standard mattress sizes per country originated from a defined area or region within the country previously defined as bed free space. This area was then split into four quarters, and a male and female average-stature body figure was introduced that enabled sleeping orientation and bed dimensions to be calculated. These standard sizes are consistent with bed frame and mattress industry conventions in many countries. For those broadly following the commercial MaxCoil range in Japan and Korea, there is considerable uniformity in the dimensions of the majority of mattress sizes. However, there are also notable exceptions to expected mattress sizes in these markets.
The problem arises from the lack of uniformity in the standard dimensions of bed structures throughout the world, while the solution reflects the local culture of the majority of people in certain geographical regions. We evaluate whether the standard sizes now in place for an expanding number of regions center around adequate local bed dimensions that take advantage of a slippery slope regarding the weight of the world’s population that is overweight or obese. We then carry out a comparative analysis on the extent to which the standard bed sizes are consensual and uniform, particularly in two countries, Japan and Korea, where these dimensions generally do not match those found in our comprehensive country list. These country case studies focus on the same company, MaxCoil, and they demonstrate how the product range has incorporated different mattress sizes to cater to the local consumer base.
1.1. Background of MaxCoil Mattresses
Japan is a country that has many bedding products from furniture plugin mattresses, futons, electrical and mechanical only. Each bed has its own unique characteristics and physical differences. In general, the core uses a stiffer spring in the middle to support lumbar while using a softer spring at the hips and legs. In the context of support for the lumbar of a mattress, a significant trend has been demonstrated to reduce low backache. Lumbar stiffness was selected so that maximum length variation of body weight could be maintained in a controlled manner. The lower the spring height, the faster the decrease of body weight to reduce pressure in the body. Overall, Japan has made modifications to the mattress size design, changing from the standard width and length. Besides comfort and trend factors, housing prices and preferences will influence trends in mattress size customizations in different countries. In addition, the growth and development of the hospitality industry are increasingly important for easy travel and cultural understanding of foreign countries. In the era of globalization, the occurrence of tourism, students and workers that import the number of foreign workers will increase. This will impact the properties and the accommodation industry development.
MaxCoil has introduced three unique mattress sizes for the different markets of Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. The three countries in this comparative research include Korea, Japan, and Indonesia, which have cultural differences as an important diversity that can directly and indirectly affect consumers’ choices in choosing sleep products. Mattress manufacturers must redefine standard pocket spring mattress measurements and produce the size that suits the market and consumer tastes. Differences in the size of the bed are affected by historical heritage factors such as the use of beds, economic factors such as income distribution, the influence of globalization on fashion and housing development, assumes that the width and height of the mattress need to be adjusted to match the area of the lying or sleeping person. The results of customization of standard mattress measurements and the addition of various components for each market will have an impact on the maximum production costs that must be considered to minimize the risk of errors.
1.2. Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this research is multifold, i.e., quantifying mattress size differences across three markets, concretizing and visualizing the gap between the original and adapted mattress sizes, and providing clear implications of this substantial phenomenon. However, perhaps the most crucial goal of this research is the reformulation of a company’s production policy which, in the case of MaxCoil, could imply a single mattress model developed by product development teams which respects comfort and allows for market-friendly price and design creation with different fabrics containing at least a few comfort-biased items and a few high-end ones. The aims of MaxCoil, similar to those of the trend-adjusted mattress-length market, are geographical expansion and continuous development of new products in an ultra-time-efficient way, with a high level of customer satisfaction and confidence.
This research begins with the belief that standardization has its merits, but that aesthetic principles should also be taken into account here. The adapted MaxCoil mattress size, especially in terms of length and width, is deemed to have harmony with the current residence-seat ratios. Secondly, the authors are unaware of other studies which address differences in mattress sizes between countries. This belief encourages answering the research question and pursuing the goal of maximizing harmonization combined with minimal differences in terms of mattress sizes across three continents, i.e., in real global businesses.
2. Methodology
We collected MaxCoil and other companies’ mattress sizes, types, and prices through the official website of Indonesia and compared them. The subjects researched were MaxCoil (4), the related competitive companies (2), and common companies in Indonesia (7). The related competitive companies were as few as one company in Japan. On the other hand, many MaxCoil products are imported to Indonesia. However, MaxCoil’s mattress options and sizes for Indonesia are very limited. The results of this study may be helpful to the company in developing the right marketing strategies in various markets, as they can provide a comprehensive understanding of the domestic market to firms competing in various regions.
Second stage is identifying the size of MaxCoil mattress in Indonesia and compare the size with Japan. Besides that, several other competitive companies are also used as related to know the competitors’ size compared to MaxCoil. By comparing the four countries’ mattress sizes, hopes to identify the similarities and differences between mattresses in Indonesian and other countries. MaxCoil geographic distribution is severely limited due to loss of attractiveness, which contrasts sharply with the international market. In this paper, we analyzed the cause of this trend through a comparative analysis of mattress sizes in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea.
2.1. Data Collection
The density and population growth are used to represent individual attributes of family size. This research mentions the terms person/people, male gender, female gender, custom, society, and culture without discrimination. The methods of data collection and analysis followed the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 18690:2018. The totality of the bedding is more exclusive than just the mattress, as the shape of the mattress may be seen as a box. Sizes are defined by width, length, width in the folded position, length in the folded position, length of chair sleeper, width of cot bed, length of cot bed, length of single mattress, width of single mattress, length of double mattress, width of double mattress, length of queen-size mattress, width of queen-size mattress, length of king-size mattress, and width of king-size mattress.
Sampling: A purposive sampling method is used to gain the showroom address data and the contact person, then the measurements are made according to ISO 18690:2018 about the mattress sizes.
Data collection was conducted from January to February 2019, covering eight cities in three countries: Jakarta, Surabaya, Semarang, Jepara, and Solo for Indonesia; Tokyo, Sapporo, and Osaka for Japan; and Busan for Korea. The choice of Jakarta and Surabaya, the high-density cities of Indonesia, is to describe the mattresses’ size of the capital and business center, as well as a port city for import-export activities. Meanwhile, Semarang and Jepara are developing cities that are responsive to the furniture industry, dominated by the Indonesian teak furniture market, and Solo as a boarding school area student contributes as a buyer for boarding furniture.
2.2. Data Analysis
Even with the standardization of bed sizes, Mattress World Co. attendees in Indonesia communicated that they had customers with complaints, be it that it is “smaller” or “larger”, when matching the mattress with the bedframe. This triggered the research for the standard sizes in Indonesia. The data obtained mainly tell the general and demographical information of the given company. Specifically, the brand name, size type, and the country of origin were disclosed. Afterward, statistical analysis of the measurements was processed. The minimum and maximum of the physical length and width for each mattress in centimeters were found. This is to provide potential industry players with the necessary sizing data for their products. Upon understanding the different types of mattress, this study narrows down to one criteria in which all the beds have direct contact with, and that is the mattress. Moreover, the mattress requires more concern as in cultures like Japan and Korea, the direct contact with the mattress means it can be rolled and requires more care. Users have different preferences as to how a soft or firm mattress can determine one’s quality of sleep.
Comparative analysis of MaxCoil mattress sizes in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea: 2.2. Data analysis
3. MaxCoil Mattress Sizes in Indonesia
The bi-dimensional principal component analysis of the Maxcoil Indonesia size mattress grouping was visually represented. The MaxCoil mattress sizes were restructured for each country: Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. The visual presentation of the reconstructed MaxCoil mattress sizes grouped indicates similar mattress sizes acknowledged by a country or even countries. Six MaxCoil mattress models that are commonly recognized as the available mattress products in added business partners – agents, in Indonesia, and a total of nineteen mattress models are sold in Japan and Korea, are tentatively grouped within a cluster which forms a delineated rectangular shape. This analysis has revealed that the businesses may benchmark these standardized sizes of mattresses for the national market.
The aim of this study is to classify the MaxCoil mattress size present in each country using a clustering approach. We viewed that combining the MaxCoil mattress sizes bi-dimensionally offered useful information, which could assist in the setup of transnational business activities in a potentially more meaningful manner. We have not found previous research that societies adopting the same mattress sizes benchmark but applying different mattresses’ standardized sizes could benefit the mattress marketing activities. The findings from this study could be utilized to adapt uniform or adjusted standardized mattress sizes that would suit mattress consumers in participating countries.
3.1. Standard Sizes
Specifically, MaxCoil in Indonesia offers three types of size for each type of mattress, namely: single, super single, and queen. In Japan, there are four types of size for each type of mattress, namely: semi double, queen, Rodrigues, and king. In Korea, MaxCoil offers six types of size for each type of mattress, namely: single, large single, super single, double, queen, and king.
The sizes of MaxCoil mattresses in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea are based on their corresponding standard sizes. Standard sizes of mattresses used in this study are based on those used in the National Bureau of Standards, 1997. The standard sizes of mattresses used in this study are divided into two types, either American or European. Generally, American sizes of mattress include twin, full, queen, and king sizes, while European sizes of mattress include single, large single, super single, double, queen, and king sizes. In this study, the sizes of the MaxCoil mattress used are based on the MaxCoil mattress sizes in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. Each country offers three to six types of size for each type of mattress.
3.2. Variations and Customizations
The rapid growth of the global economy also encourages the intertwining of various cultures, especially in urban areas. It directly affects people’s habits from bedroom design to medical purposes. This encourages mattress sizes to grow. For example, the California King-size mattress, known for its size and prestige of a luxury-class hotel, measures 2.3 m × 2.3 m. Approximately a mattress at 3 m × 3 m size is considered a luxury hotel specialty. The creation of this mattress is due to the high culture of the country and the diversity of Western tourist arrivals. This situation applies throughout the world, especially in Asia. In Asian countries, which are known for their cultural values and aesthetics, mattress sizes are equally dynamic. Arian uses a technique, Typology of Architecture, to justify this phenomenon. However, due to the lack of detailed comparative information, it leads to the idea that there is also a lack of variety in products, including the marketing aspect of the business, which tends to fall back. Many (marketing) studies have been carried out to examine hotel preferences by determining their influential variables. However, research on the Hotel Mattress industry’s market and trend has not received enough attention to study its concurrent impact.
In the past two decades, bed size variations and customizations have emerged significantly. Among them, the mattress of so-called California King is known for its size and prestige of a luxury-class hotel, which was approximately 2.3 m × 2.3 m. Additionally, a mattress with a size of 3 m × 3 m is a luxury specialty that only manufactures labels for ultra luxury. In Asia, which is famous for its aesthetic side, several large-sized mattress variations have arrived. Kim and Lim discuss that globalization has a different platform in each country, making the mattress business dynamic. Most Asian people use the standard queen or king as their first choice, meaning that Asians desire a larger body contrast, taller and bigger body frame, compared to Europeans.
The rapid growth of the global economy has led to the intertwining of multiple cultures on a daily basis. People’s demand toward aesthetics, ease, prestige, and comfort has increased. It sounds cliché, but this civilization is living at a fast pace that industry and technology are now growing dynamically. The manufacturers of mattresses, especially choose to focus on several aspects like aesthetic, prestige, and comfort. The market demand refers to bed size variations.
4. MaxCoil Mattress Sizes in Japan
Maxcoil Japan size mattress are virtually identical to the Japanese futon sizes, which are the following: – Single – 95 × 195 cm (37 in × 77 in) – Most common in Southeast Asia and Japan. In Japan, this is the standard size for a bed, first used in the 1950s and still widely popular. – Semi-Double – 120 × 195 cm (47 in × 77 in) – Slightly larger than the super single size. However, it is 35 cm (14 in) per person, which is still smaller than the combined width of 80 cm (31 in) of the two futons. In Japan, this is referred to as a second-class double bed, which seems to have been obtained around the 1980s after the double bed, but it is less expensive than the double bed and the room is often equipped with less. The mattress quality is also considered to be poorer than the wide size and of less scale. – Double – 140 × 195 cm (55 in × 77 in) – also referred to as Western full size – In Japan, the first online publication began large-scale sales from 1964 as a double size that can accommodate two people, similar to each futon. It is also called the basic double. Originally it is an overseas size different from a single, 140 cm, and it seems to have been selected as a standard size intending to apply the frame. – Queen – 160 × 195 cm (63 in × 77 in) – It is still a minority overseas general lineup that has become standard as storage space and name from bed size, LCD TV size, etc., but the room can be slightly enlarged. It can be substantiated to be divided by the fridge and the space. Since 14 cm width and 65 cm depth are acceptable, clothing, bookshelves, desks, etc. are prepared to surround. – King – 180 × 195 cm (71 in × 77 in) – It is a size whose choice seems to prove that it is unraveling hanging residual weight waste. It can also be said that 35 cm per person must be satisfied by a significant exertion of the shoulder height width. When they are divided from the main 180 cm bed of the regularly sold mattress, it is 90 cm in depth and 85 cm per person. It seems that the bedroach dormitory cannot be installed in the middle, and the hanging and wall decoration in bed are so thick that 20D upper ceilings, shelves, etc. should be smaller.
4.1. Standard Sizes
These mattress sizes are not a major obstacle to Asian trade. After understanding the differences in standard mattress sizes among products as detailed in Table 4, companies have to focus attention on making distribution operations more flexible. Companies must try to minimize carrying expensive excessive inventories. Surrendering on the inventory side of the fence by carrying a little more than the traditional amount in key sizes and paying more attention to orders that result in wild transit time is the measure of success for sales and marketing efforts. In the end, good communication across all of the supply chain partners in the planning, implementing, and monitoring stages of the entire order is what will facilitate the rapid and efficient flow of mattress products. Therefore, the results of this research will pay off the time spent in planning beforehand.
The standard sizes (in mm) for the MaxCoil mattresses in Indonesia are as the following. Twin: 965 x 1910. Twin X Long: 1070 x 1910. Full: 1370 x 1910. Queen: 1525 x 1910. Western King: 1820 x 1910. Eastern King: 1930 x 2030. For Japan, the sizes are as following. Semi Single: 970 x 1950. Single: 970 x 1950. Semi Double: 1220 x 1950. Double: 1385 x 1950. Wide Double: 1500 x 1950. Queen: 1600 x 1950. King: 1820 x 1950. Super King: 1940 x 2050. Lastly, for Korea, the sizes are different. Single: 1000 x 2000. Double: 1200 x 2000. Standard Queen: 1500 x 2000. King: 1800 x 2000.
4.2. Variations and Customizations
Adult beds have the most demand in Japan, with custom sizes available such as 77×77, 86×86, and 66×77 inches, matching the size of living rooms or using two single beds combined as king-size. Western beds made with premium mattresses and no folding function are also offered. In Korea, custom sizes such as 78×78 inches for living room requirements, 87×87 inches for luxury rooms, and 72×84-inch conforming mattresses are available. Single or double mattresses made without partitions and gaps are the current trends. Semi-double size mattress sales are less common. Unlike old folding functions, the top part of bed-in-box mattresses can be utilized as premium Western beds.
The market determines mattress variations and customizations in each country, which are influenced by cultural differences. In Indonesia, custom sizes are 22×72 and 54×75 inches. As a nation with the largest Muslim population in the world, custom 36×84-inch-conforming mattresses are widely available. For its event culture, festival beds and folding mattresses are also requested.
5. MaxCoil Mattress Sizes in Korea
In the total mattress size spread, Maxcoil korea size mattress provides 8 mattress sizes ranging from infant to super single level. However, MaxCoil only provides 5 mattress sizes (range mattress size) for twin rooms varying closer to the world mattress size. With mattress size at the Elite level of 120×200 cm amounting to 3 mattress sizes and mattress size of 140×200 cm amounting to 2 mattress sizes. Meanwhile, for USA total mattress size spread, MaxCoil only provides 6 mattress sizes that generally vary in the Asian mattress 1.5 dimension: the single mattress size and king mattress size.
The analysis of MaxCoil mattress sizes in Korea shows that MaxCoil has a more harmonious mattress size spread ranging from infant to super single mattress size than J-sleep. In addition, MaxCoil also covers 10 mattress sizes into 3 levels, covering 3 mattress sizes at the Iniah (90×200 cm) level, 4 mattress sizes at Denver (100×200 cm) and Elite (120×200 cm) levels, and 3 mattress sizes at the Classy (140×200 cm) level. The 3 mattress sizes include a single mattress size with a length of 191, 195.6, and 200 cm, a size closer to the world mattress size of 190 cm. In addition, MaxCoil also covers 6 mattress sizes at 3 levels above the Classy level to the super single level (150×200 cm) mattress size.
5.1. Standard Sizes
The standard sizes of bedding are given from multiple countries. Standard sizes of mattresses offered by MaxCoil in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea are described. Then, the suitable number of members of the family and the relationship between affordable mattress width and country are considered. The suitable number of members of a family is surveyed from the aspect of their ages and sex. Then, the relationship between mattress width and affordable topper width in Japan, the US, Denmark, and Finland is described. Finally, the enabling budget of the family member compositional ratio and the family member size are analyzed. In the first section, we give the number of family members on average in various countries and the standard sizes of bedding parts in some countries, including Japan. The mattress sizes of MaxCoil products for Indonesia, Japan, and Korea are given in. The product lineup of bedding sizes for various countries from MaxCoil is shown in. Then, the suitable number of members of a family is discussed in.
Detailed information on standard sizes of bedding in various countries is described. As for Japan, mattress sizes of MaxCoil products offered by the company in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea are given, and the product lineup for these countries is discussed. Then, the number of members of the family and the relationship between affordable mattress width and country are considered.
5.2. Variations and Customizations
5.2 Variations and Customizations: The flexibility of mattress manufacturers to build the exact size for their new customers is an important competitive edge, but consumers seem happy to buy mattresses blanketed on top of another mattress until recently in whatever size they wanted. What size, then, are mattresses now? The solution is that mattresses are made in several various measurements, but the size of the mattress that a manufacturer has made is deeply shaped by the country where it is made. So, if you have customers in several different countries, what are the mattress sizes you might expect? Based on the actual mattress sizes sold at one of Indonesia’s most famous beds, the team identified the “+” measurements for mattresses MaxCoil intended to produce and then sampled the mattress sizes available at MaxCoil’s neighboring stores.
b. Strategic levels: The “tactics” employed to implement, once a strategic plan is established, indicate the firm’s operational strength in both home and abroad markets. Until today, MaxCoil is controlling 50% of the market for mattress sales in Indonesia, while in the Japanese market, it is showing signs of outperforming South Korea in dividing into three large-sized Asian mattress markets. This factor enhances MaxCoil’s reputation and prepares it for exporting strategy and formulating the entry of potential alliances. Not only that, but MaxCoil has also subdivided to satisfy the various needs of buyers within Indonesia.
a. From a general perspective: Size variations among countries affect businesses and collaborations on integration and managing international relationships. From the data collected, large variations in the size of the MaxCoil bed were observed in both the horizontal and vertical directions. Only South Korea had the same size as. Numerous previous studies also linked the size of a country with institutions such as education, marriage, the work of women, home, church, and industry.

6. Comparative Analysis
Community and Target Audience: MaxCoil is commonly traded in the majority markets in East and Southeast Asia. Current trends in the mattress market are expressed in the considerable increase and possible changes in the range of regional mattress types and sizes. Based on consumer requirements and differences in standard housing supply, regional mattress sizes are diversified, creating the foundation for the appearance of a relevant market segment and regional promotion strategies. This paper is targeted at a wide group of affected economists, like companies that produce and sell mattresses, conducting research and collecting data on marketing estimations.
Keywords: comparative analysis, MaxCoil mattress sizes, high-quality consumer goods, mattress market trend, foreign retailer.
Research Method and Sample: This study employs a comparative approach comprising domestic companies in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea, which produce high-quality consumer goods. The research sample is represented by MaxCoil mattresses that can be exported and are available for exchange. The comparative research approach employs an analysis of the standardized mattress sizes in centimeters. The study applies the methods of systematization, analysis, and matching of data to reflect the differences and similarities in the general layout design of the provided MaxCoil mattresses within the scope of the selected structure of the countries that produce high-quality consumer goods. Data obtained using a comparative analysis allow us to draw a conclusion about making several revisions in the range of mattress sizes available on the market.
Purpose: The goal of this work is to conduct a comparative analysis of MaxCoil mattress sizes in different countries. It has practical significance for foreign retailers looking for a reliable supplier of mattresses in Asia.
6.1. Size Discrepancies
As for the width discrepancy, the height of the sheet mattress of the Six-Foot King in Southeast Asia was at least 1.7 cm larger compared to the sheet mattress height of an actual Six-Foot King. As a result, to explain the current length and width differences, we need to solve the understanding level of mattress size discrepancies and the length difference derived from the differences in the body lengths and body types (Country x Length effect, fatness, and body type).
In the case of the width of the mattress, the Queen Size sold in Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Indonesia was the same width. However, it was 10 cm wider in Korea and Japan compared to Indonesia, and the Australian Queen Size was 4 cm wider than the Southeast Asian Queen Size. Additionally, the size of the king always had the same width.
In terms of length, there is a 10-cm discrepancy between the South Korean queen size and the Indonesian queen/king sizes. The reason for this discrepancy is related to body length because the body length between the Asian and broader Asian is not different.

Question 1: What is the comparative analysis of MaxCoil mattress sizes in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea?
6.2. Market Trends
Ever-increasing digitization is leading to changes in consumer behaviour, which is having a significant economic impact. Mattress manufacturers and providers, with a wide range of bed functions available for sale, are competing with all high-fashion frames to maximize profits. Many of the factors are likely to stimulate market growth, including rapidly changing lifestyles, increasing disposable income and a sharp increase in population. In addition, consumer interest in customized and technologically revised mattresses has combined sales growth. The preference for advanced mattresses is expected to have a positive impact on their expansion over the next few years as consumers shift their attention. With the progress of the product, the competitive nature of the industry is clear. E-commerce traders are able to provide products from a variety of suppliers, and thus operate in high reach, among consumers who have clean air mattresses. However, vendors are implementing different strategies and formats for sales to lock in market growth. With a sense of increasing urbanization, a fall in the household size and an increasing focus on sustainable and healthy living, changing consumer lifestyles are driving the global market.
The comparative sales change over a 2-year period is about 10% that might not show positive in light of market trends. However, even though sales changes are expected, sales are increased positively amidst a recession shock on 2018, and mattress demand for MaxCoil products is increased by 43.54%. Although the rate is declined by 24.39% in 2019, sales significantly increase – both omnichannel and online store – compared to the previous year. Unlike the United States and Europe that seem to have stagnant or fallen sales amid the global recession, the net increase in the number of households appears to have led to a similar sales increase in mattresses to other bedding markets. Mattress markets throughout Southeast Asia, especially recent trends in China, have captured a significant segment in the bedding market, accounting for a high proportion of world market demand. As of late, increased fusion-food consumption, mobile payment development, globalization, Day of the Dead, health-focused and transparent food consumption and promotion of sustainability, particularly furniture e-commerce, might act as trends for the new bed mattress. These trends have resulted in new products, making consumers’ digital route from discovery to purchase experience better in an omnichannel environment.
7. Conclusion
In this study, we conducted a comparative size analysis of MaxCoil mattresses produced in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea under the same brand in West Java, Indonesia. Measurements of all sizes of mattresses were analyzed, and comparisons were made between Indonesia, Japan, and Korea bed sizes. The conclusion can be summarized as follows: (i) Mattress sizes in Japan are long because Japanese people have long bodies; (ii) The length sizes of the mattresses in Indonesia and Korea are also long in most women’s and king sizes, because in Indonesia and Korea, women, in particular, are interested in queen-size beds; (iii) Mattress sizes in Indonesia are wide, especially in the 180 cm long and queen sizes. Small families with tight economic conditions caused family members to sleep together; and (iv) There is no agreement concerning mattress size in the world. All countries in the world have recently adopted new mattress sizes. Only one continent in agreement exists between 19 countries in Europe.
Generally, the quality of an old product is not noticeably good. This can be attributed to the advancement of technology. The reason for its deteriorating value can also be due to not only cutting-edge technology, but also the increasing demand for products. The same is true of mattresses as well as technology. To appropriately choose a mattress that is suitable for its worth, it should be knowledgeably estimated without bias. Indicators of a mattress include its firmness, flexibility, and its size. In the case of bed sizes, as a result of differences in body sizes between various countries, beds are also produced in various sizes. It has to be noted that in some cases, bed sizes can be different in the same country.
7.1. Key Findings
This section analyzed the “spring” mattress size of various MaxCoil collections in 3 countries: Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. It was found that after comparing 13 bed sizes, the bed or mattress sizes from the 3 countries, there were a total of 7 bed sizes that represented the new spring mattress size standard of MaxCoil collection. Then, among those 7 bed sizes, we found that there were 6 bed sizes that represented an “imported” model in several countries, such as UK (United Kingdom), United States, and Canada, to purchase the spring mattress. The research contributed the outcome that before purchasing the bed size or a mattress size according to the bed or mattress size recommendation, the customer should compare other countries’ mattress size first.
This section has made a laborious attempt to acquaint the reader with the efficiently crafted “research” of comparing the “MaxCoil” mattress sizes for 3 countries – Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. It has presented the specifications of 13 bed sizes. A synopsis comparing the countries for their bed sizes has also been presented.
7.2. Implications for Consumers
Companies interested in doing business in these countries might use these sizes as parasols in these stormy markets. Having information about mattress markets can help those interested in launching into these regions make decisions that are based on sound market intelligence. Decisions such as which sizes of mattresses to make are some of the questions to be answered by the market. Once data about standard sized mattresses is available, regulatory authorities can start thinking about international sizes that make it easier for companies that want to sell goods in international markets.

The smaller MaxCoil options such as King, Queen, and Single are popular in all three countries, but the Super Single is popular in Singapore and Malaysia, but not in Indonesia, Japan, and Korea. The Super Single beds that are popular in Singapore and Malaysia are 1 m x 2 m, which do not fit the general 107 x 203 cm (3 ft 6 in x 6 ft 8 in) dimensions. The presence of these types of Southeast Asian differences are good to bear in mind when marketing to these regions. Resort hotels marketing themselves to Southeast Asian tourists may want to think about some Super Single beds. A hotel in Indonesia, Japan, or Korea, on the other hand, might decide that a King is suitable whereas one in Singapore might pick the Super Single.
